Bad to worse for Arsenal as Gabriel Martinelli forced off injured after 4:0 thrashing by Newcastle

Arsenal suffered another injury blow as Gabriel Martinelli was forced off the pitch during the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle.

Martinelli had to leave the pitch towards the end of the first half after the Brazilian went down clutching the back of his thigh. It appeared to be a hamstring injury, to add to the club attacking fitness problems.

Martinelli injury comes as a huge blow for the Gunners, who are already missing the services of two key attackers, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus through long-term injuries. Following the closure of the January transfer window, Arteta expressed his frustration over the club lack of transfer activity. The Gunners did not sign a single player, despite being linked with moves for forwards like Mathys Tel and Ollie Watkins.
